Inspiring Futures run a series of gap, careers, travel, volunteering and skills development fairs in partnership with host schools across the country.

About the Fairs

Our School Leaver and Gap fairs are attended by a variety of companies offering anything from skills courses, such as learning to sail, employer apprenticeship/Internship programmes, acquiring business skills or preparing for medical schools, to volunteering and travel experiences such as marine conservation projects in Fiji, or teaching orphaned children in South America.

We also offer the opportunity for employers to attend our fairs to promote their school leaver/graduate/apprenticeship/degree apprenticeship programmes to our schools. These companies have included DHL, Jaguar Landover, Lloyds Bank and Savills to name just a few.

What to expect

On arrival, all exhibitors will be provided with a stand and two chairs. Your company logo will be included in the fair’s programme, as well as uploaded to our website for schools to view in advance.

Our biennial Gap Fair with Futurewise is a great fun event, and the pupils were buzzing afterwards last time with ideas and plans to research.

Dauntsey’s is a co-ed school of 827 pupils, of which just under 300 are in 6th form, partly day and partly boarding, and about a quarter take a gap year. We are very keen for all upper school pupils to consider taking a year out. It can be used to gain work experience, improve their CV and employability skills, or pursue a hobby, skill or sport to a higher level. Not only do we want them to consider what they could gain from a gap year, but also how they could use the long summer after A Levels and during university holidays to their best advantage, so, summer learning, volunteering and working programmes and opportunities are also of great interest.

This fair is open to Gap providers and Employers.

We hope to invite students from Year 10 through to Year 13 from our school and sixth form, as well as from Corby Technical School, with whom we have a shared sixth form, and potentially other schools within our Trust of 5 secondary schools.

We are opening up this event to parents and guardians as well as students, so we are hoping for a large turnout. We are building up links with local industry so that we will appeal to a wider audience of parents/students considering apprenticeship opportunities. We want students to think outside the box and not to rush their career decisions, so gap year information will be key.

We believe ensuring our students have a wealth of information and advice regarding their future options and possibilities open to them that will enrich them and in terms of their career pathways is fundamental, and therefore we hope that this event will be a highly beneficial opportunity that both students and parents will value greatly.

Quoting the Head Master; ‘We see it as our responsibility to bring out our boys' talents, to broaden their interests and to develop their personal qualities. To do this we aim to foster confidence, perseverance, tolerance and integrity; to enhance communication skills; to embrace creativity; to encourage teamwork; and to promote an open-minded and outward-looking mentality so that boys are ready to make a really positive contribution to their wider community.’

I hope that exhibitors will be able to see a demonstration of this from the pupils whom they will meet at the fair. Most of these students achieve well academically and are keen to work hard at whatever they ambitiously set their minds on. We ususally have over 300 students attending this fair, and in the past, exhibitors have commented how much they have enjoyed meeting our students and we hope that they will again.

Sidcot School

Wednesday, October 9, 2019
14:00 - 16:00
Sidcot School, Oakridge Ln, Winscombe BS25 1PD
More info

Within the curriculum and throughout the school we encourage students to look into the community and the wider world. For many of our students, this creates a strong desire to be adventurous, travel, work for the good of the community and for others. Indeed, our school moto is ‘Live adventurously.’ Exhibitors can expect to find students who are already predisposed to the opportunities on offer.

Around 25% of our sixth form students are from the EU, China, Hong Kong and elsewhere. Both our UK and non-UK students have a strong sense of internationalism and for this reason, many naturally consider a gap year as a way of broadening their experience and outlook. For a number of reasons, we find there is increasing interest in deferred university entry with a view to taking a gap year. Invitations will be extended to all Year 11-13 students (200+), their parents as well as two local schools.

As a school, we are also very keen about offering apprenticeship/degree apprenticeship opportunities to our students so any companies offering this would be most welcome to attend.
